Statement from Former Richmond Centre MLA Hon Chan Last week, I announced that I was seriously considering seeking re-election. At the time, there was no other candidate in the race besides the NDP candidate. Since then, I have been ramping up campaign preparations, receiving tremendous support and even gathering enough signatures for my nomination with Elections BC. However, my priority has always been to defeat the NDP. To do that, I believe we must unite the centre and the right. With that in mind, I have decided to step aside and will not be seeking re-election this term. Serving the community has been part of my life since I was young, through volunteering, almost two decades in broadcasting, and ultimately as your MLA. That commitment has never changed. I am proud of what we accomplished in just two years, from holding the government accountable to successfully pushing for funding for the much-needed Richmond City Centre elementary school, which was originally left out of Budget 2025. Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout this journey. This chapter may be ending, but my commitment to our community is not. We might just see each other again next time.
